Dental crowns are one of the more popular methods used to fix broken teeth. They’re also great at healing damaged smiles too. But the process of getting a crown – or when you’d even need one – isn’t something that many people are intimately familiar with. This is a good thing, since crowns are usually used only when you have significant damage to your teeth.

So today, let’s educate you on what dental crowns are and how they’re used.

What are they?
Dental crowns are exactly what they sound like – a crown for your teeth. They’re usually made from some kind of plastic or ceramic material, and they’re used to help restore a tooth to its former usability. You’ll likely get a consultation from a dentists before deciding if crowns are the best course of action for your needs.

Why would I need one?
You need a crown when some sort of damage has happened to your teeth – usually the biting surface of a molar – that makes the tooth less effective and stable than it previously was. Dr. Jim D. Nored will install the crown to restore your tooth to its former self. The process is done in-office at our [pratice_name] location in Crosby, Texas.

How do they work?
Crowns are created on a case by case basis to match your teeth. Usually, they have to be ground down a bit to fit the new crown. This is called forming an abutment. Then, once everything fits right, the crown is glued onto the abutment. You’re left with something that looks, functions, and feels like a brand-new tooth.

If you’re ready for crowns in your life, or simply want to know more, call us today at 281-328-3569 to see how we can help. We’re excited to help you on your cosmetic dentistry journey.

If our dentist believes getting a dental crown would be the best solution for a heavily damaged or decayed tooth, you may want to learn more about dental crowns. Specifically, the types of material used and the process with which you would go through to place them is important to know and could help make the decision-making easier. Determining if a dental crown is right for you depend on many factors, when speaking to the dentist. There are different types of materials to choose from, such as ceramic, porcelain, and gold. For a front tooth, a porcelain or ceramic crown is perfect for a front tooth, due to its position and concerns about your appearance.

When you opt for a dental crown, Dr. Jim D. Nored will prepare the tooth. If the tooth needs to be filled or a root canal performed, this will occur first, so the dentist knows exactly what he has to work with and ensure there’s enough tooth structure to place a crown. We will also shave the tooth and place a post, to anchor it and ensure a sure foundation. The dental assistant will take impressions of your tooth, to get an accurate mold of what the permanent crown will look like and to make sure it will fit over the tooth. You will then be given a temporary crown to wear, while the permanent one is sent to a lab to be created. You will come back and receive a permanent crown. The dentist will check your bite then and send you on your way with a new, beautiful and functional tooth.

If you happen to suffer an oral accident or injury, do not agonize over the prospect of a failed smile, as there are a plethora of tooth restoration treatments available to you to ensure your teeth can return to an ideal state of health, beauty, and functionality.

If a whiter smile is something you desire, teeth whitening treatments can be implemented. However, many store-bought brands are unregulated and can seriously damage your tooth enamel or bleach your gums. Always consult with your dentist before using over-the-counter whitening kits. Alternatively, professional teeth whitening systems applied directly at our dentist office are designed to be of the highest safety and effectiveness.

If you are looking to cover the front of a tooth to hide or conceal tooth discolorations or abnormalities, our dental veneers can be used. Furthermore, if you are looking to fully conceal a tooth to improve your smile and protect the tooth from future damage and decay, our metal-free dental crowns may be your best option.

No matter which tooth restoration therapy you desire, Dr. Jim D. Nored and our team at Crosby Dental Center will make sure that your smile is properly treated. To schedule an oral exam or professional cleaning at our dentist office in Crosby, Texas, please contact us at 281-328-3569. We look forward to helping you in any way we can!
